The Situation as it Stands
With more than 1,750,000 registered cases in the U.S. it is the country with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world. 41 million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits the last ten weeks, and the unemployment rate is around 15 pct.
In total four relief packages have been adopted, totalling the relief to $3,000 billion. In addition, the US Federal Reserve has set up loan programs to provide $2,300 billion in economic support to companies. The relief and support plans are important steps in attempt to stabilize the situation and rescuing a distressed business community. In addition, a new relief package is being discussed in Congress right now.
At the same time, it can be experienced that all States in the U.S. are reopening in various degrees and with different speed and effect.
